We believe change announces itself. That one morning you wake up and suddenly everything is different.
But real change is quieter.
It happens in ordinary moments and mundane decisions. It happens in moments when you decide to go for a quick run before breakfast, or when you take the stairs instead of the elevator at the metro station. Most of us don’t notice it at the time. However, if we pause for a moment, and take a step back, we’ll realise how in all those insignificant decisions, we’re already living the rehearsal of the life that we desire to shape for ourselves.
This is exactly why vision boards work!
Not because there’s something magical about sticking a few aesthetic pictures from Pinterest on the whiteboard of your bedroom wall, or saving it as the screensaver on your phones and laptops. They work because it drills into your subconscious, a life that you desire. It works, because once you’ve seen the future clearly, your everyday choices start shifting without you even noticing.
And before you know it, all your decisions align in order to make you live the life you envisioned on the very first day of the new year.
The life that you want doesn’t arrive instantly. It tunes into you, one decision at a time!
As creative people, we use this tool called a viewfinder. We focus on smaller details like the colour, the texture, the fabric, the placement of a single element. We adjust, refine, add or eliminate what feels off. Then, we take a step back, widen our frame and look at everything from a different perspective before deciding what works and what doesn’t.
A vision board gives you perspective, a viewfinder gives you direction.
You might have an idea of how your ‘perfect life’ is going to look like, however, without a viewfinder that vision stays abstract. Overwhelming, even.
Viewfinder is where intention turns practical. It guides you to choose the habits, plans, people, situations and rhythm of your everyday life. It helps you decide what stays in the frame and what you can consciously leave out of it.
And gradually, without force, your daily life begins to resemble the vision you once pinned to a board. Not because you chased it, but because over time you consciously curated your life frame-by-frame, habit-by-habit, decision-by-decision to turn that vision board into your reality.
The way a painting is made, one intentional brushstroke at a time. Up close, every mark can feel messy. Some feel insignificant. Some can even feel like a mistake. But each one is placed consciously even when its purpose isn’t immediately visible.
You cannot expect your manifestations to magically become your reality, just because you managed to create an aesthetic vision board and forget all about it once January ends. Your consistent conscious actions is what will shape that ‘dream life’.
Therefore, in this Year of the Horse, let’s put on our blinders, tune out all the background noise and embrace the tunnel vision to move steadily towards the life we’ve imagined.
